Background
Open since 1984, Starr’s Sister is a second generation family business in
a fourth generation family storefront
.

When this beloved, family-run business was passed down from father to son, they approached us for a website redesign. The new generation in charge was looking to bring their dated online presence up to speed. The space itself is a time capsule of sorts: an eclectic collection of decor and memorabilia gathered over the past 41 years, each piece telling part of their story. My goal was to reflect the funky, character-filled interior in a refreshed digital experience.

The Problem
While the salon has a strong sense of identity in person, their website didn’t reflect that. The old site was dated, difficult to navigate, and didn’t capture the personality or warmth of the space.

Approach

Eclectic! Vibrant! Funky!

I began by immersing myself in the atmosphere of the business. I took a trip to their storefront before building out their branding—paying close attention to the textures, colors, and quirky details that made the space feel so lived-in and loved. From there, I established a branding system and designed a website that echoed that eclectic energy, with layered visuals, playful typography, and a structure that felt intuitive but not overly polished.
